Looking to keep your existing number?
You’re in luck. Most carriers allow you to take your number with you.
From the FCC Website, “Under the Federal Communications Commission’s “local number portability” rules, you can switch telephone service providers for wireline, wireless or Voice over Internet Protocol and keep your existing phone number if you remain in the same geographic area. If you are moving from one geographic area to another, however, you may not be able to take your number with you.”
Simply contact ResTech Services and we will walk you through the process of authorizing us to port your current number to our service. You can also start the process on your own, using our online phone port form. Before you do that, there are some important things to consider:
- DO NOT cancel your existing service until your number is fully ported.
This is a biggie. To port your number, your service must be maintained until after you switch carriers. Once disconnected from you, numbers are extremely difficult, if not impossible to get back.
- Settle up.
Make sure that you are fully up to date on all of your payments to your current carrier. Most carriers will deny your port request until your balance is settled.
- It takes time.
Unfortunately, porting a phone number doesn’t happen overnight. A typical port can take up to two weeks to complete.
- DO NOT CANCEL!
Seriously folks, we can’t stress this one enough. Telling someone that their number has been lost and that they’ll need to update their friends, family, work, utilities, etc. is one of our least favorite things.
